The Promenade Beach/Rock Beach is considered to be the charm of Pondicherry. A walk along the Promenade after a meal is bliss and Shenbaga is just 1.5 km away from it. One can easily find transport right outside the hotel. I highly recommend everyone to rent a bike and explore the nearby places. The place where you can rent a bike is merely 500 meters from Shenbaga. The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Immaculate Conception Cathedral and Sri Aurobindo Ashram are not even 1.5 km from this stunning property. Click here to know how I managed to cover these places in a day including a pristine beach in Pondicherry!
The hotel is huge and fancy. Well, not that huge. But considering the price we paid, hell yes, it was huge. Umm, considering it is 4-star, not that huge! Parking space ample which is definitely a plus one. At the entrance lies a grand and magnificent hallway. The hotel restaurant is on the ground floor next to the reception. I am not a big fan of Shenbaga’s restaurant as I feel the décor could have been better.
The infinity pool at the terrace looks better in the photos. However, the city view from the terrace is simply outstanding. No doubts that the pool was clean and kind of infinite. 😛
The Jacuzzi is right next to the pool but covered. The charges for the Jacuzzi is INR 200 per hour per pax. That one hour could have been complete with a glass of wine. Sadly, they do not serve food or alcohol next to the pool or Jacuzzi.
We booked a Majesty Grand Room as we were four. The room had 3 single beds so two of us had to sleep on one bed. We asked them to not put the extra bed as we liked the room all spacious and open. 😀 Turned out single beds could comfortably accommodate two girls weighing 45 kgs 😀 😛
Talking about the view from the room – BAD. But seriously who cares when the inside is so beautiful. Although in case you want a hotel with a good view, don’t book it. It is situated right at M.G Road which is a busy street. Hence, no panoramic or picture-postcard view from the room.
The washroom is small but clean and newly built with modern faucet and shower.
The food did manage to compensate the poorly done restaurant. The variety on the menu quite spoilt us. Three extremely delicious things I had for all the four days I stayed at Shenbaga was Pancakes with Maple Syrup, Sausages and Masala Dosa. 😀
The staff was prompt and responsive. They were updated about the major tourist attractions and helped us book a cab till Pichavaram Mangrove Forest too! 😀
To conclude, this is my opinion of the Shenbaga Hotel Pondicherry in brief.
